Sustainabilty

"There’s no such thing as a truly ‘green’ wetsuit. Real sustainability comes from making wetsuits that last longer—and ensuring that, when they finally reach the end of their life, they’re recycled or repurposed."

Blu Smooth has partnered with Circular Flow to help build a sustainable circular economy for neoprene waste—giving discarded wetsuits a second life by transforming them into innovative new products. When you purchase a new Blu Smooth wetsuit, you can recycle your old one with us, support a meaningful solution to wetsuit disposal, and enjoy 10% off your purchase.

Recycle

"Over the past decade, our wetsuit designs have evolved through careful, step-by-step refinement. In the world of swim wetsuits, true innovation doesn’t come from reinventing the wheel — it comes from continuous improvement. Our focus has always been on enhancing the swimming experience while developing products built to endure both the elements and the demands of regular use, ensuring long-lasting performance and enjoyment.

Every improvement we’ve made is rooted in firsthand experience. I’ve tested every version of our wetsuits in a wide range of ocean conditions. No two swims are ever the same — and each one offers new insights that help us refine and evolve our designs.

We’ve always worked closely with experienced ocean swimmers, and their feedback has been invaluable. Every swim, every insight, and every tweak has played a role in shaping the wetsuits we offer today. That hands-on, collaborative approach remains at the heart of what we do — and it always will."

Safety Tips for Ocean Swimmers

Essential guidance for safer ocean swimming
  • Always check weather and sea conditions, water temperature, tides and currents. Assess the entry and exit points. Be aware of any potential hazards like rocks or marine life and preferably don't swim alone.
  • Wear a brightly colored swim cap and consider using a tow float. These make you more visible to boats, kayakers, and lifeguards.
  • Acclimatize gradually by entering slowly and controlling your breathing. Wear a wetsuit appropriate for the water temperature. Know the signs of hypothermia and have a plan to warm up quickly after your swim.
  • Research local tide times and current patterns before swimming. If caught in a current, swim parallel to shore until free, then angle back to land. Never fight against a strong current as it will exhaust you quickly.
  • Learn about local marine life including jellyfish, seals, and other species. Most marine animals will avoid you if you remain calm. If you encounter wildlife, give them space and exit the water calmly if necessary.
  • Always try to swim with a buddy or group, and maintain visual contact. Having a kayaker or paddleboarder accompany you will give added safety and visibility.
  • Build your fitness gradually in a pool before attempting open water. Practice sighting techniques and bilateral breathing. Start with shorter distances in calm conditions and progressively challenge yourself as your confidence and skills develop.
